Secure by nature
When we’re feeling low, it’s a gift to understand the design of our human and spiritual nature.
I had a particularly difficult day recently, and what helped most was knowing—deep in my heart—that I would recalibrate naturally. As much as I wanted to push away the sadness, anger, and frustration I was feeling, I couldn’t shift my mood through force alone.
Eventually, I stopped resisting and simply surrendered to the discomfort. I sat with it. Even as I spiraled down emotionally, I reminded myself that these feelings were part of being human. Normal. Temporary. All of it created by my own thinking—whether I was consciously aware of it or not.
What made the biggest difference was my trust in the process. I knew that the less I interfered, the more likely I was to return to my natural state of calm. And that’s exactly what happened. After an early night’s sleep, I woke up feeling lighter. Nothing in my external circumstances had changed—but I had.
That experience was a reminder of how beautifully we’re designed.
We are all the same at our core. Our thoughts, beliefs, and conditioning may look different and create the illusion of separation, but underneath it all, we are each deeply resourceful and resilient. We are secure by nature. There’s no need to go searching for something we already have. It’s our default setting—a kind of built-in GPS.
The less we interfere with that natural intelligence, the more we flow with life rather than against it. We stop trying to control the storm and simply allow it to pass. And in doing so, we create space to flourish.
A client recently described it beautifully. She said that when she felt low, she used to immediately search for a solution. And when she couldn’t find one, she felt even worse. But through our work together, she began to understand that if she simply waited—if she allowed her mind and mood to settle—a new thought would naturally occur.
Because that’s how we’re built:
To recalibrate.
To renew.
To return to ourselves.
